Full Version: Base Flags & the evacuation rule

I though the base flag games we played tonight, at the members night at Leicester (09/10/2005), was much better than normal now we have the new base evacuation rule. I did not hear of any one being jabbed in the face with the laser pistol, and it seemed to keep the base clear for attackers attempting to shoot the base, while giving the base defenders a reason to try more tactical defence tactics.

I did hear some concerns from scarecrow, regarding yellow base being in a weaker location in the arena, and i have to agree with him as well, as i find out of three bases Yellow has less routes out of the base area than Red base area, and Yellow has to deal with the ramp shooting spot right in front of the base.

Maybe in the future when the arena is planned for some repairs, some suggestions could be made on some easy changes, which would make certain areas more fuctional.

At Derby I can't say we've had this problem in Base Flags. Normally the teams are pretty close anyway and our arena structure means that getting into the base area at all, without dying, is an acheivment in itself. If you DO manage to bring the base down, you will be dead the second it is.

I haven't played at the new Lecister arena, what's it like?

I recently traveled over to Australia and attended the 2005 Nationals at Rockhampton. While i was visiting, i attended four different arena's (mazes), and i have to say i found most bases in Australian arena's (mazes), to be well planned with two or more entrances and a reasonable space for the base area.

I noticed they didn't use base evacuation settings in the 05 nationals, but in that case they would deactivate a large area surrounding the base, down to the base reflecting of the foil on the cellings and over the walls of the base area's.

Over here at the new arena at Leicester Megazone, all three bases have one entrance and a not so big rectangle base area, so some times in base flags people can be recharging in the base, and either collide with some one (a person trying to shoot the base), or obstruct the entrance while others wanting to get in to reload or trying to get out.

We found it was more fuctional in our arena on the last members night with base evacuation for base flags games, but we don't have the base set to shoot after being destroyed, so its not a typical zone description in the whole sense of base evacuation.

I think you just had a poor experiance that time, usally the blue base is diabled these days to stop that from happening, and we now have it so people can not stay in the base once they have been re-energised, to make it less chaotic.

Base Evacuation does give the game a safer feel. There have been countless times where I have whitnessed someone either trip, collide etc. in the arena due to the fact that there is someone around the area of the base eg, the door-way.

Last Sunday, at the Leicester Members night R@ider made it clear that there ould be new rule put in to play where the base itself must be clear of players that have already recharged and are ready to defend. The rule worked extreamly well and the game itself was not killed.

Yes, the team evacuation rule worked well for the Leicester base flags games, but thats only becase our bases are tiny when you look at the size of a typical australian maze base. As for balanced teams, its the captain to grab players before there picked, thats why a turn system is there, and even when i gave first choice to the other team they did not choose so wisely. I just choose by how well i found players to be in the arena, and go by who is there remaining to be picked.

I rember a game like that me and Potter played in notts it was well bad the oother team just camped out in the base and we could not get any were

I think we are going to need to make some changes to the base flags games again, as there has been two seperate times on two members nights, that me and Scarecrow have had a conversation about players destroying another teams base, and then waiting around the out side of the base, keeping the team who's base had been destroted deactivated, like base camping.

Tonight we had a conversation about teams and equal strengths, and i have to agree we may need to inforce some changes as its just not working, when poor captains don't pick the strongest players before the other captain has them all, we get an ultimate team kicking the ass of the weaker team.

Its usally not a problem because the teams are not off by strength to much, but its happened a couple of times now, and its starting to make aggression boil in the arena when one team is much more powerful than the other.

something we started doing at derby was to have unbalanced teams purposfully...

i.e me,Ryu,Jebus,Pinball. vs the 7/8 other players. makes things move a little bit more that way.

Each base can be deactivated separately on the ZGCC...so that solves that problem.
I am backing up R@ider on this....we can often mentioned to each other that teams have a habit of camping round the bases to deac players as soon as they get energised. This also includes the side ramp in Leciester arena...and we ALL know how much that p*sses me off wink.gif
I do have a rough draft copy of some basic rules for Base Flags @ Leicester...I'll get a few copies printed and get them upto ya on Sunday for reviewing...as per usual....suggestions and comments are welcome...once we have all had a look, I'll get a formal copy made out and printed off.
I also happen to have a copy of modified OZ National rules froma few years back...might be worth getting a few copies out to y'all.
And hell....since I am searching through folder and folders of MZ stuff...I got a REALLY old copy of the Lemming Descriptions.....I am sure that R@ider knows what I mean...you guys HAVE to see that....I'll get that posted on here for ya all.
Oh yeah...and one more thing... x-Soph-x ....u actually LIKE zoneball.....u should come and try it at Leicester...I am sure we can put u off it quite quickly tongue.gif
Ryu
it caught my eye what scarecrow said, so i ask, what's bad about zone ball at leicester ??
Deadman
dont think we have the patients for zone ball, we like fast paced games, zone ball we can never play cos we all round like headless chiickens not know whos in control of the ball

poison ball , now thats different altogether
Scarecrow
okies....we dont get on too well with zone ball for the reason put above....we have no patience. As for poison ball......though physically impossible it actually managed to blow, suck AND bite all at the same time. No1 lost a single life cos lets be honest....what are the chacnes of spenmding that amount of time without actually getting hit and/or hitting sum1.....sod all. It *might* work with smaller groups...but it sure as hell doesn't work with 22 players. Nice idea for a game though.....reminds me of a old game we had back at Chelmsford on Z...can't remember the name though :-P

Anima, why do you feel the need to put my name in to every single one of your posts? I wouldn't mind but most of the things you say makes me come off as a bad person, and I'm getting fed up of it. There have been a number of times where I have felt it would just be easier not to go MZ anymore.

Let me get this straight with you now, I don'ttalk about you on sites because I know you get upset easily over posts, and I have had to stop it. But why do you think it dosn't apply the other way round? I appreciate that you feel I'm a better player than you, and thanks for telling everyone but it really gets on my nerves when you think 'hmmmm...lets post something and put Ricks name in it so that he comes off looking bad'

You may think I'm big headed but I'm not, is it wrong for me to have a lauge with everyone else?

just because I won a few lucky trophies at All-Nighters it dosn't give YOU, or anyone else, the right to bad-mouth me. why not just say stuff like that to my face and not on the forums, and save everyones time.

I'm not bothered about that 'Poison Ball' game idea anyway. You can claim every little bit of it for yourself, I'm not bothered anymore. Only you and me will know exactly who came up with it, but I'm not gonna discuss that yet. All I'm saying is that you said 'Virus', I said the system couldn't do it but suggested 'Mine Tag', then you gave the idea to Ch@os on MZ-UK.com, thats all that happened.

But I am warning you, I don'twant to see my name (or Alias, or any other hints of me) mentioned in any of your posts, that show negative comments about my character in MZ, which is usually every single one of your posts anyway. I don't want players to get the idea I'm a prick, the same as anyone else would.

So thats that......
Diablos
I see, how, after that post, Anima's post suddenly gets edited with all the bits taken out. I won't be supprised if this gets edited at some point......

So, why would someone feel the need to edit a post if I'm lways in the wrong?

Lets just say that this matter is closed........
Scarecrow
Try opening it again wink.gif

I dont think we have covered this topic enough, can we re-open it please?
