Acocks
Green Members Night - 25/04/03 This
month's members night had an excellent turn-out of about
twenty players of mixed ability.
New
& Old Members
This
was the first members night at Birmingham to include members
from another site. Ex-Leicester members R@ider and Phantom
turned up to compete and put on a pretty good show for the
locals. It
It was also the return of some older players, including
kyi-chan who used to play under the name chibi.
Technique
& Style
gohan661 demonstrated his new 'technique'
to the other members - jumping about.

Game
Safety
Although
there were some minor injuries this member's night, the
players acted with more maturity than the previous member's
night, resisting the urge to climb onto the bar.
Game
Highlights
Ghost
was playing on top form in the Reception game, having secured
himself a bin to hide in! Other members found the air-hockey
table an ideal hiding place.
Sandman, Raider and Ghost tried the Lord Of The Rings game
while others played Alien. Lord Of The Rings is a game played
in a small open area with three players. The shots are set
to one second, stuns are four seconds and de-ac is set to
eight seconds. This type of game is good practice for one-on-ones.
Games
Once
again the games were Solos, Teams and special games.

Derby
6 Contender Team Tournament - Saturday 19th 2003
We
arrived for another event at Derby Megazone, expecting to
play some pretty good contenders, and we were not wrong
expecting either. We arrived on the scene around 7:00pm
in the evening, had a chat with Matt Archer who was running
the tournament, and then met up with the rest of our team
for a good chat about our chances. We then went in for a
solo game, and I came out first place, after destroying
many contenders with RPG's, but it was a good warm up for
us, who were looking for a good laugh.
Around
7:30pm, all the team contenders flocked into the reception
area, waiting for their teammates. Around the same point
Cobr@, Hunter, Pinball and Killcrazy Toby arrived, we had
a good long chat and a few laughs, I was specially pleased
I managed to chat too Toby.

Shortly
after wards, Derby-A and Leicester-Ham-D went in to
the first warm-up game.
Unsurprising when we entered the warm-up battle, we
got shot from every angle, there was so many laser
pulses coming towards me, I thought there was an invisible
army.
Derby-A
Team:
This team was made up of Derby's best contenders, some we
new well from previous events over the years, others we
new little about. It's possible that Hunter was the team
captain, but don't hold me to it. The team was a certainly
a dangerous predator force, each contender supporting the
team with there own special skill.
Hunter
was as usual dishing solo heat, at any contender who was
open to receive it, in a frantic style. I sore the signs
of Hunter's presence, but ignored the signs and continued
to go towards the light of death and destruction, suddenly
I was deactivated before I sore the contender fire the act
of aggression, ****.
RYU
is another Derby best, and dam did I know it after leaving
the arena with more wounds than weapon test dummy. He is
quick on the mark, and can dish as well as defend his ground.
All I can say is, Time is just a window, Ill be back.
As
usual, Pinball was cover firing across the arena while hiding
behind a wall, so he had to go. With help from Ghost, we
muscled him out and took his place firing across the arena.
"Heh Heh" Pinball is Pandora's box, how ever old
he looks, don't open him, as something horrible always happens
and usually to some one else, other than him self.
Derby B Team:
These guys were made up of something, as they were good
players, and they franticly dished the heat, some how. We
new some of the players on the team, but there were some
players that we met after the first round, that we preferred
not to have met. They put up a good defence against Derby-A
and Leicester-Ham-D, and deserved to take second place for
the tournament. "With help from seven players, LOL"
Cobr@ was in Derby B and he was a key player to there success,
sadly I did not get much one-on-one battle action this time
round, but I've played against him before and I know he
can dish the heat.
KILLCRAZY,
yes I enjoyed playing against this contender, especially
in the 4th round, where he attempted to remove a thorn,
from Team-B's butt. "I was the thorn" You best
not irritate this warrior, or the ground may just open up
and eat you whole. LOL
Leicester-Ham
D Team:
Are team was called Leicester-ham as the contenders in are
team, were mainly from Leicester with a few from Birmingham.
We were a five-contender team, and were expecting possible
defeat from the start, but we were still keen to battle
anyway against the other teams. We came, we sore, we kicked
some ass, and received some ass kicking. We were looking
forward to attempting to beat Derby, "well it was a
nice dream" but it all got a little nasty, "imagine
hell raiser 2" so we need more practise. We did well
for are first attempt at a Team Tournament, and hopefully
we will return to retry another time.
Ghost
is one of the best local players from Acocks Green Birmingham,
and I'm sure we would not have done as well with out him.
It was his first visit to Derby Megazone arena, so I'm sure
he will do better on his next visit. Ghost is an ace warrior
so don't drop your guard or he will frag you no problem.
Nemesis,
Yep we brought the super contender with us, he was hooked
up to the cigarette lighter on the way to Derby, so that
he was super charged for the event. Nemesis was the reason
Hunter came 10th place in the 3rd Round, that's right we
sent the Nemesis after him, and man did Hunter feel it.
Nemesis is a good player, if Leicester Megazone ever gets
a members team again, he could be number one.
Phantom
and his emergency painkillers were on the team, all ready
to tackle someone out of their points. Don't be tricked,
this guys may look small, but he can play, o yes he can
play.
I'm
R@IDER, and I'm a good teammate contender, as long as I've
slept well. I'm a hairy student, Jesus looking kind of bloke,
and a interesting kind of character. I play for Acocks Green,
and when needed I dish heat.
Sandman
dished heat on this tournament while playing the best in
the arena. A contender from Acocks Green Birmingham, and
a possible future midlands best player.
Round
1 = A - B - C
Are team was not in Round 1, so we missed all the
bloody mayhem, which was probably caused mainly by
Team-A, and helped by Team-B.

Round 2 = D - A - B
We went in against some heavy resistance, mainly Derby-A
Team who were keen to take us on, than Derby C. Are plans
failed, and we ended up playing on impulse than planned
attack, at which point I twisted my ankle and had to take
a more slow approach to the remainder of the round. Derby-A
Team quickly took the round, and was really working well
as a team; they deserved to win for the performance they
gave. Derby-C Team were playing franticly, they were scoring
more than we were, as at which point we were spread thin
across the arena.
Round
3 Results: = C - D - A
Another round of heavy firepower from Pinball and
Hunter, we kind of managed to get a plan, but we were
still over whelmed. Team-C were blast firing every
thing that was a target, causing all who were walking
in the open area's to be mostly deactivated. It's
unsure who had the round under control, as it seemed
more chaos than planned.

Round
4 Results: = B - C - D
In this round we got are act back, and kept both teams
in equal deactivation. My ankle was feeling reasonable
in this round, so I sent heavy amounts of cover firepower
across the arena to sandman, and kept Killcrazy busy
at the same time. The Team-C were running for cover
most of the time, as we had the Nemesis bouncing around
the arena, picking off victims. We won the round,
and it saved us from being beat by Team C in the main
results. Yeah!
Raider
asked me to revue Leicester's All-nighter for him and to
be honest I was looking forward to going back to Leicester
having been absent for some time.
Arriving
at Leicester early because of problem they have there with
cars getting broken into but unfortunately I was proven
right as one of the members' car was nearly broken into
outside Megazone but thankfully we saw them doing it and
scared them off. Getting back to the All-nighter Leicester
has a new Manager called Simon. He only took over from Dean,
the previous one, in the last 2 weeks. On the members side
of things Simon said he is hoping to get things back the
way they were a few years ago with lots of events and new
membership deals for this year. He all so said that we are
getting T2 packs in a few months as they're getting shipped
out from Australia.
The
night started proper for me when Nemesis turned up at 9.30
and us 2 got playing pool. The score ended up 2 games 1
to me. Well it was the only time all night I really beat
Nemesis at definitively. After the pool games all the members
started to turn up one by one really until we had 24 members.
By 10ish we were expecting #Myerz# from Swansea but he never
turned up at all and Leicester members would be forgiven
to say "Thank God He didn't" as he would have
really upset a lot of new members with his alleged cheating
so he can get hold of the Leicester's Trophy he wanted so
bad. It's bad enough with all members jossling for possession
of a trophy but to contend with #myerz# is altogether a
different kettle of fish.
Paul
was also working the whole night. He had brought his D.J
kit from home and set it up next to one of the video games
where we blasted with a mix of dance pop music of his choice.
With
Lee taking all the money for the All-nighter bookings and
giving out free memberships, we did not get started properly
until about 10.15 with a solo game where Ben, one of the
Saturday kid morning members, won the game and Nemesis close
second.
With
all the scores up on the screen everyone had a breather
and then went back in for a R.p.g team game for 15mins and
thankfully my blue team won by a few grand and I personally
got the top score.
Then of course we had to have a re-shuffle of the teams
for the next team game so Ian asked me which one I wanted
to play. I said it would be good to show the new members
Cowboy and Indian game which involves 3 teams: 1 team on
the top ramps who have 30 lives, the other 2 have 20 lives
each and play on the bottom ground level. All they have
to do is eliminate the Cowboys to win. Fortunately for the
Cowboys they did not get wiped out at the end of the game.
They did this by hiding in corners where they could not
get shot or by lying down. Of course that's cheating but
it was the first time most of the new members had played
that game so most people didn't mind that much but on the
other hand some of the old members where really getting
miffed of with the cheating and took it a bit to personally.
Paul
decided we play a new R.p.g game at 11. By this time everyone
wanted to know how to use the R.p.g's so I had the job of
telling them that it's 2 pushes on the button on the front
of the pack for shields, 3 for smart gun and 4 stealth guns.
I didn't bother telling them about spy mode as you only
really use it in elimination games to confuse the other
team. Nemesis' Blue team came out on top with a good lead
in front. He personally got a score of 22454 which to be
honest is taking the Mickey really. I guess he had to prove
a point that he 's the best in the 'game'.
With
everyone liking team games Paul set up the second Cowboys
and Indian game but this time we made a few changes to the
lives by putting the Indians on 15 lives and letting one
of the bottom teams on to the ramps for a change. This time
they did a little big horn on the poor guys on top. All
them wiped out. It got to the stage where we had 12 members
at the end of game hunting down one guy. Give him his due
he lasted pretty long considering everyone was after him.
Ben made sure the Indians won by getting the top score and
let everyone know about it as well.
The
accuracy championship came up next with Lee setting up the
game to party solo. We all went into the briefing room to
be told this is the first trophy game of the night and would
be played soon with the results being announced later on.
As this was probably the first All-nighter some of the members
had been to most of the guys in the accuracy game thought
they were Rambo and went round shooting like mad especially
this cute 7-year-old kid. He must have on been about 3 feet
tall but by gum he can blast the hell out of everything
in his path. Pity it was not a normal game as he might have
done really well but as it was you just stayed away from
the little guy or die. Nemesis managed to keep clear of
him and the rest of us so he won with 93%. Ian played as
well and came second and Ben trailed in at 3rd
Having
played the first trophy game of the night we all had half
an hour getting some pizza or eating the crisps that Ian
and the rest of the staff had put out. Personally I was
expecting a better range of food laid out on the tables.
I got the impression from the posters Megazone had put out
that there would be a proper buffet but instead all we had
really was a few bowls of crisps and some nuts.
Elimination
games still in everyone's minds Lee set up a new one with
50 shots and 15 lives lasting 20 mins .It got off to a good
start with most of the members running for cover. Unfortunately
a large number of members did not really understand that
they only had 50 shots and just went silly in the green
base and got themselves eliminated in a few minutes by Little
Ben and Nemesis so there was no choice but to abandon the
game.
Paul then let called us all into the briefing room for the
Solo Trophy game he let Lee set up the game to a fast and
furious 30mins that entails 4 shots a second, death time
2 seconds, one second stun even though the game setting
for a trophy game were to say the least different but we
went ahead anyway. Unfortunately towards the end of the
game Lee decided he wanted to win the solo game so he put
a pack that was not registering hits on it so he won the
game with 42000. Thankfully everyone really got miffed off
with his cheating and it was decided to restart the solo
trophy game after a small break
.
This time Paul set up the solo trophy to 15mins party solo
setting to make sure that we all got a fair game if that
was possible. With all the setting right we went into the
arena and stared to play for the trophy. Nemesis had by
this time got in to the swing of things and used his one
hand trick to the annoyance of Ian and me. I tried my best
to compete with his talent at ducking and blocking shots.
Like Nemesis said to me before the game I'm not good enough
and I agree with him as I have lost my form in the past
few years and rarely play well enough to come in the top
3. With me out the way playing rubbish it came down to little
Ben, Ian and Nemesis battling it out for the top score.
The
second trophy of the night went to Nemesis with 29000/,
little Ben came second with 24000 and I came 3rd with 21000
It might have been a different outcome later in the night
as Paul made us play a second solo trophy at 3pm so he could
work out what everyone's average would be. As it was the
game score did not load up on to the computer so we stuck
with results from the first game.
By
now it was getting late in the morning and we began to run
out of time for games so it was decided that we'd all better
go into the briefing room and pick teams for the Team trophy
game. We did this by getting 5 members to act as captains
and pick 5 members but with having funny numbers one team
had to be a 4. This is not as easy as it looks because everyone
kept forgetting who they picked so I stepped into help with
a note pad but, with my spelling, I let little Ben help
out a bit as well.
The
first had Nemesis as the captain. He played a team with
4 members in it against a 5-member team and his team qualified
to the final. Then it was my blue team's turn. We played
little Ben's team of 5 at first. It was close as Ben's team
were all in the green base and doing really well by keeping
us at bay and scoring lots of points. I had other plans
with most of my team behind me. We stormed the green base
to shoot it out. The battle for the base lasted a few minutes.
By that time Ben's team were losing and they just legged
it out of there. We kept on top of Ben's team till the end
of the game and beat them by quite a margin to get in the
Final game.
The
final team game was to say the most challenging games I've
played. Yes. You did hear right. We ended up playing 3 games
for the Final. The first game was going ok for my side till
Nemesis pointed out that I picked up the pack Lee had used
in the solo game. Or in other words I was caning everyone
and they were getting a bit miffed off about it. We restarted
the game again this time. A few packs were not registering
hits, so went to play the solo a 3rd time.
With
no problems with the packs by this time Nemesis had got
it in for me. Most of the game was played with me getting
shot to bits or me shooting Nemesis which suited me fine
because, when his team was getting me, my team were racking
up all the points behind their back.
Finally
the game ended and we all went in to the briefing room to
hear who had won what.
Simon
read out the results to everyone. It was no surprise to
hear Nemesis' name called out a few times: one for the Solo
Trophy and the other for the Accuracy Trophy. Simon also
said that they had a worst member award. I won't mention
his name but he only got it because the really bad member
had already gone home!
Afterwards Simon called out the team who had won the Team
trophy. I thought that my team had not done that well but
I was given a big shock when it was my Blue team. That made
my night really to see a few new members getting a trophy,
not just the normal members like Little Ben and me.
After
the Presentation, Simon thanked us all for coming and said
he hoped he would organise another All-nighter soon which
would be bigger and better. I thanked him for a good night
and asked him when he thought the next All-nighter would
be but he hadn't decided on a date yet .As we went out Simon
handed out little lights to all of us when we got out of
the door. I thought that was a nice touch giving out freebees
and saying goodbye to everyone.
On
my last note the night went well as can be expected with
all that's happened at Leicester and Simon did well with
all the organisation considering the previous manager had
left Megazone on bad terms and not told Simon anything about
the All-nighter.
Bye
Phantom.

Okay, so you want to play like the predator? Yes, well good
for you. This
is another playing style which is best suited for slow games,
but also very useful for fast games too! First of all, what
is the predator I hear you ask?
Well they are aliens with some pretty freaky women's genitalia
for a face, but with some of the best stalking tactics around...
unless your a xenomorph and hang off ceilings.
The Predator has a few advantages:
1) They can cloak. Stealth is
a very overlooked feature - you could reduce the number of
times you are hit by not been seen in the first place.
2) Predators are stalkers, that's
why this is so good for slow games. Especially with few people,
but will push your skills to the limit with a full arena.
All the Hide and Seek tips previously mentioned will come
in useful here.
3) Laser aiming. The guns have
got lasers on them, use it to aim properly (unless you've
got stealth on). It's an easy thing to overlook in the midst
of battle, but over large distances the laser can help no
end... better than flaying the gun all over the place hoping
to hit someone!
4) And last of all, use green
florescent paint to spray people as they shoot you. Okay not
really that was just a joke.
And remember unlike the Predator your feature controls are
on your pack
and not your arm. Writen

New
Leicester Megazone Manger Re-opens Members Evening. In
the last few months, a new manager has taken over Leicester
Megazone, from the old manager Mrs Tina Duncan after she resigned.
The new manager which is
Mr Simon Todd, has been landed with the job of taking Megazone
Leicester HQ backup to respectable standard, after the years
depressing performance.
The
all-nighter which was recently held, was also run by Mr Todd
him self, after the assistant manager also resigned short
notice. I've received good feed back about Mr Togg and the
way he managed the all-nighter, especially on the running
of the games with marshals, marshalling.
Mr
Todd has decided to re-open the Megazone Leicester members
evening, starting with the first to be held on the 18th may
2003. The evening will cost ten pounds per person for three
hours in length, and for members only. Written

News
of the T2 System We
have had un-normal mass release of information from Megazone
Leicester HQ lately, first starting with the posting by Mr
Todd, on the Community Message board. With all the information
that was released, there was the first news for sometime that
the System T2 was on it's way to Leicester Megazone.
Apparently, the system was shipped from Australia by boat
to be delivered to England at the beginning of April 2003.
A few days then past, and we received another information
release from Mr Togg on the 29/4/03, stating that the new
system had arrived, and that hopefully by early June the installation
for the new system would take place.
Currently,
know one knows for sure what comes with this new system, or
what revolutionary changes it has. There were rumours floating
around the Internet zone boards that the new system has no
RPG's, which could be tragic if true, but is yet to be answered. Many
contenders are looking forward to the Zone Radio hardware,
which has been promised many times since 2000.
If the Zone Radio feature were to be installed at Leicester
Megazone, it would make an interesting feature for the reception
area, and revolutionise Zone Laser Tag, and hopefully set
new standards, and new directions for the industry. Written
